User Layer Imports

This function is used in TE to add layers to new layer groups to see on the main map display.

NOTE: If you are using a custom coordinate system. or you need to keep the original projection as-is, DO NOT upload the PRJ file.

 

Adding a User Layer

  1. Log into TE
  2. Open the layers panel form the top toolbar.

  3. Click the Edit button at the top of the layer panel to open the User Layers dialogue

  4. Click the New button to open the new layer dialogue

  5. Enter a name for the New User Layer
  6. Enter a name for the user layer folder you want the layer to be placed in. (If there is not a folder with the existing name a new folder will be created)
  7. Check the Publish to Web box to publish the layer and make it available in TE. (If this box is not checked the layer will not be visible in TE)
  8. Check the Publish to Mobile box to publish the layer and make it available in PointMan. (If this box is not checked the layer will not be visible in PointMan)
  9. Select the base color for the layer by either selecting it with the color picker or by entering the specific hexadecimal color code. This color will be the fill color of any points or polygons.
  10. Select the boarder color for the layer by either selecting it with the color picker or by entering the specific hexadecimal color code. This color will be the outline color of any points or polygons
  11. If the Allow Moving Features checkbox is checked the points, lines and polygons in the layer will be able to be moved on the map. (If this
  12. If the Disallow Feature Selection checkbox is checked the features in the layer will not be able to be selected. (This is to prevent selecting large layers or layers that are close geographically)
  13. Select the file to be used for the layer. 
    a. Click the browse button and navigate to the file you wish to upload.

    b. Select the file and click the Open button. The corresponding file should then display in the New User Layer dialogue.

    c. If you are importing a .shp file you must also select the corresponding .shx and .dbf files with the optional .prj file

    d. The current supported file types are .kmz and .shp files. 
    e. There is a 25Mb file size limit. This means that any individual file that is uploaded (.kmz .shp .shx .dbf .prj) can not exceed 25Mb
  14. Click the OK button and the changes will be saved (This may take some time)
  15. The New User Layer dialogue closes and the new layer name will display in the User Layers dialogue.
  16. Click the Close button to close the dialogue and TE will refresh.
  17. Open the layer panel from the top toolbar and the folder where you placed the user layer. Activate the new layer and it will display on the main map display with the correct coloring.

  
Editing a User Layer

  1. Open the layers panel from the top toolbar.

  2. Click the Edit button at the top of the layer panel to open the User Layers dialogue

  3. Highlight the layer you wish to edit by clicking on it. An Edit and Delete button will appear in the top of the dialogue box

  4. Click the Edit button to open the Edit User Layer dialogue. This dialogue should be filled out with the information corresponding to the User Layer

  5. In this dialogue the Layer Name, Folder, Layer location (Web and Mobile), and Layer Colors can be edited. NOTE: Changing the Location will affect the layers ability to be view
  6. Click the OK button and the changes will be saved (This may take some time)
  7. The New User Layer dialogue closes and the new layer name will display in the User Layers dialogue.
  8. Click the Close button to close the dialogue and TE will refresh.
  9. Open the layer panel from the top toolbar and the folder where you placed the user layer. Activate the new layer and it will display on the main map display with the correct coloring.

 

Deleting a User Layer

  1. Open the layers panel form the top toolbar.

  2. Click the Edit button at the top of the layer panel to open the User Layers dialogue

  3. Highlight the layer you wish to delete by clicking on it. An Edit and Delete button will appear in the top of the dialogue box.

  4. Click the Delete button and a confirmation prompt will display. NOTE: Deleting a layer is permanent in both TE and PM.
  5. Click the Delete button to delete the layer (this may take some time)
  6. The New User Layer dialogue closes and the new layer name will display in the User Layers dialogue.
  7. Click the Close button to close the dialogue and TE will refresh.
  8. Open the layer panel from the top toolbar and the folder where you deleted the layer. The layer should no longer be in that folder.
