Searching and Filtering Searches
The Transparent Earth Search Grid
Selecting one of the main and sub-items in the Administration and Module Dashboard automatically opens the Search Dashboard directly below it.
For example, opening the Quick Search item, and selecting the Map Layers sub-item opens the Search Dashboard in the lower left portion of Transparent Earth.
The user is able to choose searchable layers from the dropdown. Click Search when you are ready to begin your search.
After you enter your search criteria and then click Search, (or just click Search without adding criteria) the Search Grid and available tools displays in a seperate window within Transparent Earth
Search Grid Window
The Search Grid window can be moved as well as minimized and maximized.
In the upper right, the <img src="/images/8/87/Search_Grid_15.png" _fck_mw_filename="Search Grid 15.png" _fck_mw_origimgwidth="80" _fck_mw_origimgheight="30" alt="RTENOTITLE" title="RTENOTITLE" style="vertical-align:middle;" /> buttons are available to minimize, maximize, and close the Search Grid. When minimize is selected, the window will minimize to the lower left of the map viewport. Clicking the maximize button or double clicking on the title bar of the Search Grid will expand the window cover the entire area of the map viewport.
The user will see the results displayed in several columns in the Search Grid. At the bottom of the search grid window, the user is able to navigate the results by pages, including the option of showing 10, 25, 50, and 100 results per page. The user also has the option of jumping to a specific page, or navigating pages one by one. The number of pages and results available will depend on the filters being used.
Depending upon the type of information you're querying, users may or may not have the option to see the specific location of that item on the Map.
If the MapIt button displays, then select the applicable record, then click the MapIt button, and the map will zoom to the specific location on the map, with a point, line or polygon indicating the location of that feature.
Another option is to double-click the record. Double-clicking the record has the same result as clicking the MapIt button.
Use the Column Filter button to select which columns display in the Results Grid.
Click the column filter button to open the list of columns, then select or clear the check boxes next to the column title.
Filter Search Results
Use the Search Box to narrow the list of results in the Results Grid. This option will search either All Columns or Visible Columns depending on which option is selected in the radial option.
Start typing a value in the Search Box field (for this example: 376), and the results grid will narrow the results to display only those fields with that value included.
Certain columns may also have the ability to filter results within the column depending on the column's data type. Multiple comparison operators for filtering different data types are available to help the user further refine their search within a column.
Map Query Filter
This feature allows the user to only display the results of a query on the map, rather than all other data from the dataset. After performing a successful filter on search results, use the FilterMap button to only display the filtered data on the map. Alternately, you can use the ClearMapFilter button to display all results of your dataset on the map.
Users are able to run several searches at the same time. Choose search options and click Search to open a new search tab in the Search Grid. If the search grid is minimized to the lower left corner of Transparent Earth, it will re-open and the new search results will be displayed.
Click the Export to Excel or Export to PDF button to export either all columns or only visible columns depending on which radial button is selected in the options presented in the upper right. Only the filtered options will be exported, so in order to export all available data, make sure to use the Clear Filters button before exporting.
A browser window displays, allowing you to select the location to save the file, and the option to change the name.
Select the location and change the name as necessary, then click Save.
Note: Export to PDF option can not be used to export All Columns. Only Visible Columns will work with this feature.
