The linear referencing functionality is used to either find a points stationing using its coordinate or find a points coordinate using its stationing.

**To Activate Linear Referencing**

- Log into TE
- Activate the layer you would like to linear reference (For this page we will use the Operations Maintenance Generic Lines layer)
- Find the Line that you would like to reference

- Activate the Linear Referencing from the top tool bar

- This will display 4 new icons in the top left of the main map display

- Click the Select Line button (first button) to activate the Select line mode
- Click on the line you would like to linear reference and it will be highlighted in blue

- Once you have the line selected you can then find the stationing of a point or find a point using its stationing

**Finding Stationing using Coordinate**

- Follow the steps above to select the line you would like to reference
- Click on the Coordinate to Station button (second button) to activate the Coordinate to station mode
- Click on the line where you want to find the stationing and a point will be placed on the line that will also display the stationing

- When you are finished either click the Cancel Stationing button (fourth button) to deselect the line and remove the stationing from the map or close the linear referencing module by clicking it in the top toolbar

**Finding a Coordinate using Stationing**

- Follow the steps above to select the line you would like to reference
- Click on Station to Coordinate button (third button) to display the Convert Station to Coordinate dialogue

- Enter a valid station value in the box and select your preferred units
- Click the
**Convert**button and a point will be placed on the line at that stationing value

- When you are finished either click the Cancel Stationing button (fourth button) to deselect the line and remove the stationing from the map or close the linear referencing module by clicking it in the top toolbar
