Google Elevation Profile

This page details how to use the Google Elevation Profile to find the elevation of a point or line.

 

To See the Elevation of a Drawn Point/Line

  1. Log into TE
  2. Open Google Maps For Work from the button in the top toolbar. This will open the Google Maps For Work 
    To Find Elevation for points:
  3. Click the Draw Point For Elevation button (fifth button) and a blue point will be placed on the end of the mouse cursor.

  4. Click somewhere on the map and a box will display the elevation, lat, long, and areial resolution information for the point.
  5. You can close the elevation information by clicking the "x" in the top right corner

    To See the Elevataion Profile of a Line:
  6. Click the Draw Line For Elevation button (sixth button) and a blue point will be placed on the end of the mouse cursor.

  7. Click a point on the map and the start of the line will be placed with a line connecting it to the cursor.
  8. Click a second point and a line will be drawn from it to the first and a line will be drawn from it to the mouse cursor.
  9. Click as many more points as needed to form the line.
  10. When you are satisfied with the line, double click the final point. The line will be completed and the elevation profile will open on the bottom of the map. You can change between feet and meters by clicking the Feet/Meters button in the top left of the elevation profile.

  11. Roll over the profile with the mouse and a point will trace along the line.

  12. Clicking on the profile will center on the point on the map.

  13. Double Clicking will center the mapand zoom it in. If you roll over the profile when the map has been zoomed in, the map will pan to keep the point on the map.

To see the elevation information for an existing feature

  1. Click the Select Feature For Elevation button(seventh/final button).

  2. Activate any layer containing points or lines.
  3. With the last button active click an existing feature.
  4. follow the steps above to access the elevation info for points and lines.
