This page covers how to configure and use the Custom Utility Codding system in TransparentEarth. Using this feature you are able to assign a feature a Component Code for feature lookup. When you capture a feature you will also be able to assign each point in the feature a unique Control Code.

This article will cover how to add/edit/delete custom Component Codes and Control Codes for features, how to use Control Codes when creating new features, and how to view the Control Codes with the new pedigree dialogue.

 

Creating a Custom Component with Component Code

  1. Log into TransparentEarth
  2. In the left side dashboard click on Administration to open the administration tools
  3. Click on Data Dictionary and the Data Dictionary will open}
    RTENOTITLE
  4. Click the New button to open the New Component dialogue
    RTENOTITLE
  5. Choose a system or add a new one with the (+) button
  6. Enter a name for the component in the component field
  7. Enter a Component Code in the code field
  8. Select the geometry (point, line, polygon) from the dropdown
  9. Add any required fields in the user fields section with the New button
  10. Click the OK button to be returned to the Data Dictionary window with the component added
  11. Click the OK button in the Data Dictionary window to save any changes and return to the main map

 

Editing a Custom Component Code

  1. Log into TransparentEarth
  2. In the left side dashboard click on Administration to open the administration tools
  3. Click on Data Dictionary and the Data Dictionary will open
    RTENOTITLE
  4. Click on the feature you want to edit the code for and it will be highlighted blue
    RTENOTITLE
  5. Click the edit button and the Edit Component dialogue will open
    RTENOTITLE
  6. Highlight the Code field by clicking on it and change the code to the desired code
  7. Click the OK button to save your changes and you will be returned to the Data Dictionary window
  8. Click the OK button in the Data Dictionary window to save the code
  9. TransparentEarth will reload and the Component Code will be saved

Using Component and Control Codes with PointMan Tools

Point Features

  1. Log into TransparentEarth
  2. Open the PointMan Tools from the top toolbar and 3 buttons will appear in the top left of the main map display
    RTENOTITLE
  3. Activate the Add New Features mode by clicking the 1st button (RTENOTITLE) and the mouse will turn into a crosshair (+)
  4. Click on the main map and the New Place Mark dialogue will open
    RTENOTITLE
  5. Click on the Component box to open the Component Search dialogue
  6. Find a point feature by entering its Component Code or by typing its name and click on it to select it
  7. Click on the Code box to open the Control Codes dialogue
    RTENOTITLE
  8. Check any needed Control Codes and click OK
  9. Click the OK button in the New Place Mark dialogue and the point will be saved to the map

 

Line and Polygon Features

  1. Log into TransparentEarth
  2. Open the PointMan Tools from the top toolbar and 3 buttons will appear in the top left of the main map display

  3. Activate the Add New Features mode by clicking the 1st button (RTENOTITLE) and the mouse will turn into a crosshair (+)
  4. Click on the main map and the New Place Mark dialogue will open
    RTENOTITLE
  5. Click on the Component box to open the Component Search dialogue
  6. Find a line/polygon feature by entering its Component Code or by typing its name and click on it to select it
  7. Click on the Code box to open the Control Codes dialogue to enter a Segment Code for the line/polygon
    RTENOTITLE
    (The Segment Code will be applied to all points in the line/polygon)
  8. Click the OK button in the New Place Mark dialogue and you will be returned to the main map display with the first point of the feature on the map
  9. To add a Control Code to the first point click on the Code button in the lower right and the Control Codes dialogue will open

  10. Check any needed Control Codes and click OK to add them to the point on the line
  11. Click the next point on the map for your line/polygon and a point will be added on the map
  12. Add a Control Code if needed with steps 9-10
  13. Continue to add points to the map until the feature is the desired shape using steps 9-10 to add Control Codes as needed
  14. When the feature is the desired shape click the Save button in the lower right and the feature will be saved to the map

 

Viewing Feature Control Codes with Pedigree Tools

  1. Log into TransparentEarth
  2. Open the PointMan Tools from the top toolbar and 3 buttons will appear in the top left of the main map display

  3. Activate the View Precession and Pedigree button (3rd button)
  4. Locate the feature that you want to see the Control Codes
  5. Click on the feature to highlight it and open the pedigree dialogue box

  6. If it is a line/polygon feature use the Next and Previous buttons to cycle through the points to view other Control Codes
