Creating Lines

Overview

From within TransparentEarth, turn on the PointMan Lines Layer:

  1. Open the Layers Control panel.
  2. Click Field Data Collection.
  3. Select the check box for PointMan Lines. Any existing lines that have already been created will display. If no lines have already been created in TE or PM, selecting this layer will enable you to see the new lines you create.
  4. Zoom into the area of interest (the area in which you want to create a line).
  5. Click the Activate PointMan icon.

PointMan Selection Mode:

Allows users to select a feature (point, line, polygon, eForm) on the map andopen the Selection panel, which in turn enables the Drop Tools  panelwhich allows users to group features into a single related Folder.

 

PointMan New Mode:

Allows users to create new features (points, lines, polygons, eForms) on themap.

 

View Pedigree Information

Allows users to view location details for points, lines, polygons, and eFormscreated using some form of GPS services (GPS device, or Location Services onthe tablet).

  1. Click the PointMan New Mode icon.
  2. Click on the map at the specific point you want start your new line. 
    The New Place Mark dialog box displays.

  3. Select the applicable System from the drop-down list. 
    Each system automatically has a color code associated with it so that when the object is logged, it displays in the correct color designation. 
    The 'System' drop-down filters are a list of available components that are appropriate for that particular system.
  4. Select the applicable Component from the drop-down list: LineLine Feature or Other Line (must be one of the LINE type options).
  5. Click OK
    A white-circle is placed on the map at the location you selected (clicked), and your cursor remains a cross +. 
    Also, you should see the following menu items at the lower right of your screen: Save, Add, Next, Delete, Cancel.

  6. Click on the map at the second point in your line. 
    A blue line will display between your first point and your second point.

  7. Click as many times as is necessary to create an accurate line for your needs. You can create a straight line with only two (2) points, a straight line with multiple points, or a bent line with many points and angles. 
    Each time you click on the map a new invisible 'point' is created and the next time you click on the map a line will be drawn directly between the two points. This means you can create a long straight line, or you can create a line with many joints or angles.

  8. To save the line, click Save
    You will see a brief "Saving..." message, and the line will be saved, it will be the color of the System/Component combination that you selected, and the New Place Mark button will be inactive.

To modify a line by extending one end

Click the View Attribute Informationbutton to turn it on.

  1. Click on the line you just created. The Info dialog box displays: Notify, Move, Delete buttons at the top,and basic line information in the body of the dialog box.
  2. Click the Move button. Your line will highlight in blue, and the Save, Add, Next, Delete and Cancel buttons should display in the lower right corner of the window.
  3. Click the Next button.The point that is highlighted (with a white circle) on your line should move backwards along the points in your line. Each time you click Next, the circle-highlight should move to the next point back in the line, and will eventually return to the first point you created, then back to the last point you created.
  4. To extend this line from one end or the other(not from the middle) click the Next button until the circle-highlights at the line end-point from which you want to extend the line.The circle-highlight is located at the point along the line from which you want to extend.

  5. Click at the point on the map that you want to extend the line to. The line will extend without creating a new point. That is, the original start/end point will just be moved to the new location.

  6. Click Save. The line has been modified and saved.

 

To move a joint/point within the line

  1. With the Info icon active, click theline, then click Move in the dialog box. The line is highlighted in blue, the Save, Add, Next, Delete, Cancel buttons display lower right corner.
  2. Click Next until you are at the point/joint you want to move. The point you want to move will be highlighted.

  3. Click the map at the new location/point you want that joint/point to be at. The point itself will move, and the sections of line both before and after it will be elongated/shortened to accommodate the new point position.

  4. Click Save. The line has been modified and saved.

 

To add additional points/joints to the line

  1. With the Info icon active, click the lineagain, then click Move in the dialog box. The line is highlighted in blue, the Save, Add, Next, Delete, Cancel buttonsdisplay lower right corner.
  2. Click Next until you are at the point/joint the place where you want to ADD a point/joint. If you want to create more of a specific bend, for example. Note: cycle through the points clicking Next so that you are clear as to where all of the points are. 
    You will want to highlight the point that is BEFORE the place you want toadd a point to

    The point you want to move will be highlighted.
  3. Click the Add button (lower right corner of the screen).
  4. Click the spot on the map that you want the new point to be moved to. The line will adjust its shape to accommodate the new point.

  5. Click Save. The line has been modified and saved.

 

To remove points/joints from the line

  1. With the Info icon active, click the lineagain, then click Move in the dialog box. The line is highlighted in blue and the Save, Add, Next, Delete, Cancel buttonsdisplay lower right corner.
  2. Click Next until you are at the point/joint the place where you want to REMOVE a point/joint. Note: cycle through the points clicking Next so that you are clear as to where all of the points are. You will want to highlight the point you want to remove. 
    The point you want to remove will be highlighted.

  3. Click Delete (lower right corner). The point will be removed and the overall line will adjust to accommodate themissing point.

  4. Click Save. Your line has been modified and saved.

 

To delete a line

  1. With the Info icon active, then click on the line you want to delete. The Info dialog box for that point displays, displaying details about that point. In addition, 3 buttons should display: Move, Notify, Delete.
  2. Click the Delete button. A delete confirmation message displays.
  3. Click OK to confirm the message. User is returned to the map view, and the line will be removed.

 

To send a notification to a PointMan account

  1. From the Info box, click the Notifybutton.

  2. Select a name in the To field,  typea Subject, and type a Note
